Something Borrowed (2011)

Something Borrowed is, in fact, something borrowed. It uses every boring romantic comedy plot device imaginable, "borrowed" from every other crappy romantic comedy that has come out in the past several years. This is one genre that could really use some fresh air, but Something Borrowed's window is firmly shut. I'm not even going to bother wasting my effort and your time writing a big 600 word blahblahblah about specifically why it isn't good. Just believe me. Stars Ginnifer Goodwin, Kate Hudson, Colin Egglesfield, and John Krasinski, all good entertainers in their own ways, here don't even play real people. They are simply cliched shadows of human beings that do not allow us to relate to them in any way because everything they do is so contrived and unrealistic. The best way to describe the whole movie is that it is like the really long series finale of some sitcom where all the laughs are reduced in favor of "who's going to wind up with who" drama that doesn't work because we all know who's going to end up with who after watching the show for ten years. Only we don't need ten years to figure it out.

Guys: if your girl drags you to see this movie, you have my sympathies. Girls: be better to your guys. Don't make them watch Something Borrowed.
